Funny Billboard: Insurance is Boring
These days, insurance companies realize they're better off advertising humor than whatever it is they actually sell. Think about it: Geico has its adorably charming gecko, Allstate has garnered brand awareness with its humorous mayhem commercials, and Progressive's recent success is due, at least in part, to its enthusiastic and upbeat spokeswoman, Flo.
Now Western Direct, an insurance agency in Canada, has jumped on the funny bandwagon with its most recent ad. Check out the amusing billboard through which the company asserts that "Insurance is boring":
I can't tell if this ad is really great or really awkward. After all, Western Direct is calling itself an uninteresting company. But I guess that's something that consumers already know anyway!
I'm curious to see if the insurance agency's brand awareness increases due to this ad. Hopefully audiences will understand the billboard. If the company can succeed in becoming a household name, then I'd say it's a job well done!
